BRIEF OVERVIEW:

Testing Length: 2-3 hours

**Collateral Record Review

**Comprehensive Written Report

A psychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps to understand an individual's emotional, behavioral, and mental health functioning. It involves a combination of clinical interviews, psychological testing, and sometimes collateral information from family members or other relevant parties. The goal of the evaluation is to assess mood, personality, and behavior to identify mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or personality disorders.

A Psychological Evaluation is typically recommended for:

Figuring out the Diagnosis:  If you're unsure what mental health condition might be affecting you, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or a personality disorder, a psychological evaluation can give you clear answers. It takes a deep look at your emotions, behavior, and how you handle stress to provide an accurate diagnosis and better understanding of your mental health.

Addressing Emotional or Behavioral Concerns:  If you're struggling with mood swings, relationships, or behaviors that are hard to control, a psychological evaluation can help pinpoint the causes. It looks at conditions like depression, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive behaviors, helping to uncover what might be behind your emotional or behavioral challenges.

Planning for Treatment:  A psychological evaluation provides important information to create a personalized treatment plan. It helps identify what kind of support or therapy would be most helpful for you, whether it's counseling, medication, or lifestyle changes. This ensures that your treatment is tailored to your specific needs.

  • Mood and Emotions: Evaluates your emotional health, looking for signs of depression, anxiety, mood swings, or other emotional concerns.

  • Personality: Assesses your personality traits and how they influence your behavior, relationships, and reactions to stress.

  • Thought Patterns: Looks at how you think and process information, identifying any negative or irrational thought patterns that might impact your well-being.

  • Behavior: Examines your actions and reactions in different situations to understand behavioral challenges like impulsivity, aggression, or withdrawal.

  • Coping Skills: Assesses how you handle stress, challenges, and difficult emotions, including your ability to manage anxiety or overwhelming feelings.

  • Interpersonal Relationships: Looks at how you interact with others, including communication, conflict resolution, and relationship patterns.

  • Self-Image: Explores how you view yourself, including self-esteem, confidence, and body image.

  • Depression: Assesses the severity of symptoms like sadness, fatigue, and lack of motivation, and helps distinguish between different types of depression (e.g., major depression, dysthymia).

  • Anxiety Disorders: Identifies anxiety triggers and evaluates how anxiety affects daily life, including conditions like generalized anxiety, panic disorder, or social anxiety.

  • Bipolar Disorder: Helps differentiate between periods of manic highs and depressive lows, and assesses mood stability over time.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Evaluates the impact of trauma on mood, behavior, and emotional well-being, and helps guide treatment for trauma-related symptoms.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Examines recurring obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors to understand how they affect daily functioning.

  • Personality Disorders: Identifies patterns of behavior, thoughts, and feelings that affect relationships and daily life, such as borderline personality disorder or narcissistic personality disorder.

  • Schizophrenia and Other Psychotic Disorders: Assesses symptoms like hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thinking to provide an accurate diagnosis and track severity.

  • Eating Disorders: Evaluates thought patterns and behaviors related to food, body image, and control, including conditions like anorexia, bulimia, or binge-eating disorder.
